History

Like most of Marblehead, our store has a one-of-a-kind history. In 1880, the store opened as a local grocery store, and was owned and operated by Nathaniel Snow. Nat Snow was a prominent and highly respected business owner in Marblehead, and his grocery store that bore his name, Snow’s Cash Grocery, held a large and flourishing trade.

Nat and his wife Amelia raised their family on Washington Street, where their four daughters, Amy, Lucy, Mary and Ida and two sons Nat Jr., and John often worked in the store. Both Nat and Amelia were active members of the community, volunteering for several charities and organizations.

Nathaniel Snow just so happens to be Pete’s great-great-grandfather! When Pete and Kathy first learned that the space they planned to rent had been owned by the Snow family, they felt it was the perfect place to open their store, where their own daughter, Abby, now works alongside them.
